Location: Hampstead and Leicester Square (Irving St)
Contractor: Monza Contractors
Designer / Architect: Afroditi Krassa
The Brief: Bar tops, waiter stations and round table; vanity tops in bathrooms
In Detail: We teamed up with commercial floor and tile specialist Tech Tile to research and source the material for this project at two branches of Café Rouge in London. Carrara quartz was chosen due to its high resistance to stain and scratches, making it ideal for a commercial environment. The stone was cut to a slim 20mm depth to echo the sleek, contemporary feel of the refurbishment with a 10mm x 5mm rebate to the front edge. Our team of expert stonemasons hand-finished the surfaces throughout to ensure a crafted, luxurious appearance.

Client: Café Rouge
Location: Chapelfield Shopping Centre, Norwich
Contractor: Jaysam Joinery
Designer / Architect: Afroditi Krassa
The Brief: Bar tops, waiter stations, round tables
In Detail: We were awarded this Café Rouge commission following our success at the two London branches. The choice of materials and execution was very similar, but this was a more challenging project in terms of access and deadlines due to the fact that this restaurant is located in a shopping centre. Our work and solution was to use a specialist team to work during the night to minimise disruption to trading for the client.
Client: EN Architects
The target audience for this block of inter-linked studios and one, two and three bedroom apartments is young professionals who appreciate style, comfort and functionality. We were commissioned by the architects to supply solid surfaces to the kitchen areas; flooring, and mosaic across all bathrooms. Our work consisted in using natural granite in addition to LG Hi-Macs, which could be adapted perfectly to the client’s requirements in terms of shape and design within a limited space./li>

Client: Randall & Aubin
Location: Brewer Street, Soho
The Brief: Bar tops, waiter station, marble skirting in Ladies’ and Mens’ bathrooms, regrouting on marble tables, consultancy on cleaning and maintenance of existing materials
In Detail: Established in 1908 as a family-owned butcher’s shop, Randall & Aubin has been a landmark restaurant in the heart of Soho for the past sixteen years. The building retains all of its original features – although naturally there are modern additions, including a mirror ball and sound system! The commission was to replace and repair most of the original marble in the restaurant. We carried out research to source the closest match to the existing look and feel of the stone: beautiful pieces of natural Carrara marble in a honed finish with a thickness of 20mm. We also produced bespoke marble skirting throughout and modified the shape of a number of existing pieces which needed upgrading.

Client: Zuaya Kensington
Location: Kensington High Street, London
The Brief: Bar countertops, downstands and cladding on main station and bar areas.
In Detail: The commission was to source an exotic material from any corner of the world that could provide a tropical look to match the theme of the restaurant. MKW Surfaces’ expertise and global network of trusted quarries and distributors resulted in the proposal of Calacatta Verde marble which is an exotic variety of the popular Italian marble but from a dedicated area in northern Tuscany, in the province of Massa in which the material occurs naturally over many thousands of years of metamorphosis of the minerals of this region. Our work was completed meeting strict deadlines, in time for opening of this fantastic high-end space.
